Crushing: The feathers are crushed. They are broken down into very fine particles – 80 mesh or finer. This step prepares them for the next step, hydrolysis.

Hydrolysis: The crushed feathers are sent to the hydrolysis tank, where keratin is broken down into digestible proteins under high temperature and high pressure. Simultaneously, pathogens present in the feathers are completely eliminated during this stage.
